4-334 Supervision by the Division of the State Architect
During construction, reconstruction, rehabilitation, repair, alteration of, or addition to any school building, DSA, as provided by the Act, shall make such site visits as in its judgment are necessary for proper enforcement of the Act and the protection of the safety of the pupils, the teachers and the public. If at any time as the work progresses, prior to the issuance of the certification of compliance it is found that modifications or changes are necessary to secure safety or to comply with code requirements, DSA shall notify the architect or registered engineer in general responsible charge, the contractor, and school district, of the necessity for such modifications or changes.

- Whenever DSA finds any construction work being performed in a manner contrary to the provisions of this code and that would compromise the structural integrity of the building, the Department of General Services, State of California, is authorized to issue a stop work order.
- The stop work order shall be in writing and shall be given to the owner of the property involved, or the owner's agent, or the person doing the work. Upon issuance of a stop work order, the cited work shall immediately cease. The stop work order shall state the reason for the order, and the conditions under which the cited work will be permitted to resume.
- Any person who continues working on the cited work after having been served with a stop work order, except such work as that person is directed to perform to remove a violation or unsafe condition, shall be subject to penalties as prescribed by law.
