1231.2.4 Sobering Cell

A sobering cell shall:
- Contain a minimum of 20 square feet (1.9 m2) of floor area per inmate;
- Be limited to eight inmates;
- Be no smaller than 60 square feet (5.6 m2) and have a clear ceiling height of 8 feet (2438 mm) or more;
- Contain a toilet, wash basin and drinking fountain as specified in Section 1231.3;
- Have padded partitions located next to toilet fixture in such a manner that they provide support to the user;
- Maximize visual supervision of inmates by staff;
- Be padded on the floor as specified in Section 1231.3; and
- Have accessible a shower in the secure portion of the facility.
