2603.4.1.10 Siding Backer Board

Foam plastic insulation of not more than 2,000 British thermal units per square feet (Btu/sq. ft.) (22.7 mJ/m²) as determined by NFPA 259 shall be permitted as a siding backer board with a maximum thickness of ¹/₂ inch (12.7 mm), provided that it is separated from the interior of the building by not less than 2 inches (51 mm) of mineral fiber insulation or equivalent or where applied as insulation with re-siding over existing wall construction.
