Solid-fuel appliances (whether or
not under a hood) with fireboxes of 5 cubic feet (0.14 m3)
volume or less shall have not less than a listed 2-A rated water-spray fire extinguisher or a 1.6 gallon (6.1L) wet
chemical fire extinguisher listed for Class K fires in accordance
with NFPA 10 with a travel distance of not more
than 20 feet (6096 mm) to the appliance. [NFPA 96:14.7.8]
