Assisted living facilities, adult homes, community residences, congregate care facilities, enriched housing, halfway houses, intermediate care facilities, residential care facilities, social rehabilitation facilities, substance abuse rehabilitation centers and other Group I-1 buildings and occupancies in which building occupants are capable of self-preservation and capable of responding to a fire or other emergency without assistance from others shall comply with the emergency preparedness requirements set forth in FC 401, 416 and this section.
408.2 Emergency Preparedness in Assisted Living Facilities and Similar Occupancies With Fire and Emergency Preparedness Plans (Level 2)
The commissioner may prescribe by rule that in Group I-1 buildings or occupancies provided with voice communication capability there shall be present during regular business hours one or more members of the FEP staff required pursuant to FC401.5.5 who hold a certificate of fitness for emergency announcements and other fire safety duties.
In addition to the requirements of FC401.7, persons residing in Group I-1 occupancies shall:
- participate in a full building evacuation on an annual basis.
- if capable of participating in an evacuation or in-building relocation without assistance, be trained to provide assistance to other such residents to the extent that their physical and mental abilities permit them to do so without additional personal risk.
