Original document

According to PA 096-0704 (effective January 1, 2010), all new commercial construction after July 1, 2011 must comply with the 2006 or later editions of the International Building Code, International Existing Building Code, International Property Maintenance Code, and the 2008 or later edition of the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70) and must pass an inspection by a qualified inspector. This Act does not apply to areas that registered its own adopted building codes to the Capital Development Board (CDB) in accordance with the Capital Development Board Act.

PA 096-0704 was replaced by PA 101-0369 which states that new commercial constructions in a non-building code jurisdiction must comply with the current edition or the most current preceding of the International Building Code, International Existing Building Code, and National Electrical Code (NFPA 70). The change will take effect on December 15, 2019.
